As women age, their healthcare needs evolve, requiring regular check-ups, screenings, and immunizations to maintain overall well-being and prevent serious conditions. Preventive health measures can help extend life expectancy by up to 10 years.

Annual Check-Ups

Primary Care:

Regular visits help track health trends, monitor vital signs, and ensure necessary screenings and vaccinations.

Mental Health:

Women are twice as likely to be diagnosed with anxiety and mood disorders. Regular check-ins with a mental health professional can help manage symptoms.

Key Preventive Screenings

Key Preventive Screenings:

Essential for heart disease and stroke prevention, especially from age 40.

Diabetes:

Screening recommended every three years starting at age 40, or earlier for high-risk individuals.

Osteoporosis:

Bone density tests are crucial for women over 65 or those at risk.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs):

Regular screening is important for sexually active women.

Vision & Hearing:

Eye exams are recommended every two years (annually after 65), and hearing should be checked if concerns arise.

Dental Care:

Routine cleanings and check-ups are necessary at least once a year.

Cancer Screenings

Skin Cancer:

Regular dermatology exams help detect melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Breast Cancer:

Mammograms recommended starting at 40 (new Ontario guideline) every two years.

Cervical Cancer:

Pap smears and HPV tests every three years from age 25 to 70.

Lung Cancer:

High-risk individuals (ages 55–74 with a smoking history) should have a low-dose CT scan every three years.

Colorectal Cancer:

Stool tests every two years from 50 to 74, or earlier with risk factors.

Recommended Immunizations

Every 10 Years:

Diphtheria, tetanus

Annually:

Influenza

Age 50+:

Shingles vaccine

Age 65+:

Pneumococcal vaccine

HPV Vaccine:

Recommended for women under 26, or older with exposure risk.

Managing Menopause and Perimenopause
